Join us for a community celebration to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans
Saturday, June 22, 2024 | 11am-2pm | Mike Waters Memorial Park
Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, TX. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as "Juneteenth," by the newly freed people in Texas and it became a federal holiday on June 17, 2021.
Join us for a community celebration to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans. Juneteenth Celebration is free and open to the public featuring live entertainment, vendors, games and activities for all ages, bounce houses, food, book giveaway for K-12, educational opportunities, and more.
